Keeping Your Motorhome Secure

Buying a motorhome is a big decision and one that you will likely want to protect in the coming years. After all, if you’re going to invest in a motorhome, you want the fun to last! Making sure your motorhome is secure should be at the top of your priority list, you should take extra measures when you’re off travelling in your home-away-from-home. If you lock your door of your house and put the alarm on, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t do the same for your motorhome.

So, if you’re looking for tips and advice on how to keep your motorhome secure, let Premier Motorhomes offer you some inspiration. Here are just a few ways you can protect your motorhome from possible theft.

Common sense

It might sound silly, but just having some common sense can make a huge difference when it comes to the security of your motorhome! Remembering to do the little things can ward off any risks and ensure your motorhome isn’t a target for crime. Make sure you close the windows and lock all the doors if you’re heading out for the day; sometimes it even pays to keep the doors locked when you’re inside the motorhome too.

Keeping valuables out of sight is also very important. If you’re travelling with kids, it’s likely they’ll leave tablets or laptops out and about but ensure everything is put away and doesn’t cause temptation for any passing thieves.

You should consider not leaving your motorhome unattended for prolonged periods of time as this can attract some risks; heading out for the afternoon isn’t a problem, but if you’re considering being away for a night or 2 then you should make sure you take extra measures to secure your motorhome.

Additional security measures

There are a number of extra devices you can buy that will increase the security of your motorhome. This can make it difficult for someone to take the motorhome itself, so it’s worth considering. Wheel clamps and steering wheel locks are very good at acting as a visual deterrent, while making it difficult for anyone to drive the vehicle away. Likewise, gear locks allow you to lock the gear stick to the handbrake, making it very difficult if not impossible!

You can add additional locks on to the doors; every motorhome will come with standard locks but buying extra ones can also be a great deterrent, and they are incredibly hard to break.

New motorhomes will possibly already have a pre-installed alarm, but if yours doesn’t, then adding an alarm is a great method of securing your vehicle. Most alarms will come with a window sticker to let people know your vehicle is alarmed and that potential thieves should move on quickly!

Of course, sometimes vehicles do get stolen, but if you’ve added a tracking device then it can help you to get it back! Tracking devices are often unnoticed, and new technology means you can link the device to your phone; you’ll receive instant notifications and can get in touch with the police very quickly.
