Why choose an island bed layout in a motorhome?
Why choose an island bed layout in a motorhome?
The simple reason is that it is very similar to the bed you probably sleep in at home. So you have the advantage of being able to get out either side of the bed unlike many other layouts. The 'island bed' has become very popular over the last few years and is now one of the most sought after layouts. We supply motorhomes from five of the best motorhome manufacturers all of which offer this 'island bed' layout.
Layout here is an example of an 'island bed' layout
Up front
With an 'island bed' layout you will have an additional seating area in the front part of the motorhome just in front of the cab seats. In this seating area you may have a 'half dinette' layout which is two additional travelling seats fitted to the nearside of the motorhome genarally opposite the habitation or entrance door.
However, nowadays the more popular layout is the 'lounge front' where you have two opposing benches creating a more open feeling. In this layout the additional travelling seats are concealed under these benches.
Storage when you have an 'island bed' layout
With an 'island bed' you will generally get a smaller storage space than a twin single layout. This is because the storage is under the bed, so the size of the storage or garage will depend on the height of the bed, however some manufacturers are offering a 'high bed' option giving a full garage but beware the bed is 'high'. This space can normally be accessed from either of the garage doors on the outside of the motorhome.
